Learn about local materials that can be foraged for natural dyes. Participants will learn about the sustainable and ethical harvesting of plants, fungi and lichen for dyeing. We will review various dye techniques that can be used to extract color: solar dyeing, eco-printing, bundle dyeing and cold vs heated dye pots. We will also cover preparing fabrics for dyeing, keeping a foraged dye journal and how to store dye materials for future projects. This is a great opportunity to learn which local plants give beautiful colors, how to achieve them and the best time to harvest them. The hands-on portion covers bundle-dyeing and traditional dip- dyeing bandanas. You will take home a dyed piece of your own creation.
