A Natural Dye Study of The Eastern Black Walnut

A Natural Dye Study of The Eastern Black Walnut
t's been a while since we last offered a natural dye workshop, and I'm excited to offer something special. This workshop is an excellent introduction for beginners as well as experienced dyers. We will cover foraging for dyes, sustainable practices, and several dye methods to extract color. Participants will also learn different dyeing techniques to create patterns and prints; each will receive additional dye material to continue experimenting at home.
The black walnut tree has long been my most treasured dye source. Over the years, I’ve explored its rich potential, learning to coax out deep browns, glowing golds, and vibrant rust tones—all sustainably harvested. I’m excited to share how the bark, leaves, and nuts create gorgeous colors. Practices covered in this workshop can be applied to numerous other local natural dye sources.

Space is limited, so don't wait-join us and @thefarmhouseproject for an afternoon of hands-on dyeing, black walnut cocktails, and refreshments in the beautiful setting of the @blackwalnutcatskills
